The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of the relationship variable (quality of parenting) and the time variable (mother¡¯s working hours, number of days a caretaker is away) affecting parent-child attachment on the children¡¯s peer attachment. Three waves of panel data (n=2,119) from the KCYPS were employed for this study. The major findings were as follows First, the children¡¯s perceived relationship with their parents is more important than the amount of time their parents¡¯ are able to spent with the children. Second, mothers should make best efforts to nurture and interact during their time with together the time because the quality of time and parenting can be more important than the amount of time spent with their children. This study considered the time variable of children¡¯s attachment, and suggests that the quality of relationship the children (2-3 graders) have with their parents may affect the peer attachment of sixth graders.
